Script: FontReporter® 2 / Collect used Fonts Info from multiple files
[UPDATED]
Do you need information about fonts used in your document(s)? Do you want to check is some fonts missing in a more than one file? You can do that with FontReporter®!
You can collect info from currently opened files, or even better, browse to folder that contains your InDesign files, and script will automatically loop through them, and collect all info.
Two reports can be generated. First is default, and you can’t turn it off, and that is complete list of fonts in all files together sorted and filtered duplicates. Second one is document based report, so you get report per file about fonts. And last option is to open created report (complete report) in default text editor.
[UPDATED]
- Now reads files saved in previous InDesign version.
- Alerts if file cannot be opened.

Special thanks and credits goes to Loic Aigon and Marc Autret for great suggestions and script testing! Thank you guys!
This script was inspired by question from Adobe’s InDesign Scripting forum!
Have fun! 😀
hi!This was a really wonderful subject!
I come from roma, I was luck to seek your topic in digg
Also I learn a lot in your subject really thank your very much i will come later
Sorry, this doesn’t seem to work if the font is missing – it will list the font name, but not the variants (e.g. if, say, the imaginary font “ITC Wonderful Std” is used in Normal, Bold and Italic it will only list “ITC Wonderful Std Regular” – and notice it has chosen a wrong variant, as it uses InDesigns substitute font for retrieving the name of the variant).
At least, this is what happens on the files I have tested.
We often get requests for going through the customers InD documents and giving them the font lists. This would be a great script if it would list the entire font name including the variant.
Sorry for delay.
Thanks for the info!
I’ll try to fix it soon!
I just tested it, and it’s working fine here. I tested it with Myriad font, and all is working good. Only thing that it does if font is substituted, is wrong font path, because missing fonts are not stored in file, but font variants are preserved. If you need more help, feel free to contact me directly via email.
I was really happy to have found this, but the script only worked one time, and now comes up completely empty. This happens whether the doct has active or missing fonts. Can you help? I can send a screenshot if you like.
This may happen if you are loading older files to newer version of InDesign. For example loading CS4 files with CS5 converts document and opened document is not saved file, it doesn’t have path, name, etc. Feel free to contact me over email if you need further help.
Thank you! That’s just what I needed. This will be a very useful tool.
I’m really glad you find it useful! 🙂
I’m also thinking to make same thing for links. 🙂
Hi, we couldn’t get it to work. My designer wrote:
“The script is being run, but is not reporting that any fonts are in the document.
The script was installed as per the website directions.
[…]
The same result happens when selecting the ‘document source folder’ as well.
CS5 running on Mac OS X 10.5.8”
Hi Jason!
This may happen if trying to create font reports of older InDesign files in newer version of InDesign. I will take a look and try to make it work.
